Feather Bomb

We interrupt your program to bring you this fast-breaking TDB news flash. I'm your intrepid doggie reporter and Special Agent Chester L. W. Spaniel. I'm live and on location in our back yard.

There's another exploded birdie in our yard! We found feathers everywhere!

The Double Doggie Homeland Security System was on the case immediately. Here is Special Agent Joseph (Joey dog) Spaniel next to several scattered down feathers.

I'm investigating more feathery evidence.

Another rain storm is fast approaching. Ghostwriter gathered as many feathers as she could before the crime scene was obliterated. We'll conduct further research in our forensics lab later, but from the markings on the long wing and tail feathers, she determined this was an adult mourning dove. We're quite certain the perpetrator was some kind of hawk.

But then ghostwriter kicked me off the case when she discovered I was … ahem … eating the evidence …

Feathers. Yum.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled program already in progress.

Finally A Food Report!

Hello food fans. This is The Daily Bone Yum Yum report and I’m your culinary doggie reporter Joseph (Joey dog) Spaniel, Doggie Chief Inspector, comestibles division, and founder of the Yum Yum Coalition.

As you may have heard, I had a nasty stomach bug that put me out of commission for a week, and rendered me unable to eat much besides plain, boiled chicken and rice soup. I can now say that I am officially over it, almost done with my medicine, back to normal, and eating my healthy weight maintenance yum yum crunchy meatballs doggie food. I’m also way behind on my food reporting.

It’s officially grilling season! We start off with a pork chop that had been marinated in State Fair Spiedie Sauce, crisp spanakopitas, and a salad with Greek dressing. Amazing!

We like to keep things simple. So here is a plain grilled chicken with a bit of barbecue sauce, along with mixed steamed vegetables and basmati rice. Heavenly!

On a rainy day, we made this delectable stir fry which includes chicken that had been marinated in soy sauce, ginger and garlic, with snap peas, peppers, mushrooms, and Udon noodles, finished with oyster sauce.

For a quick dinner, we ordered pizza with pepperoni, sausage and mushrooms from our friendly neighborhood Pizza Corner. Still our favorite pizza place for 32 years!

Bone appetite!

Um, I'll have whatever he's having, please!

Little Birdie

Hello. This is The Daily Bone and I'm your compassionate doggie reporter Chester L. W. Spaniel.

Yesterday it rained and rained and rained! Not just sprinkles. Not just drizzling. But full-on, flat-out, dogs-and-cats, pouring rain with high winds too. All day long! Non-stop! The clouds were zooming by like crazy.

In spite of the rain, or more likely because of it, lots of little birdies were eating at our feeders. We saw cardinals, mourning doves, house sparrows, house finches, gold finches, chickadees, and chipping sparrows, to name a few. Some of them looked pretty soaked, like this little one, below. He looks like a young one whose feathers aren’t all grown yet. It was cold out too. I hope he made it through the night! (Sorry it’s not more clear. The windows were wet.)

I took a peek out the window and he flew away.

Why can't the little birdie come inside our house and wait for the rain to stop?

I promise not to chase him. We'll be just like Snoopy and Woodstock.

Weird Times At Miss Charlee's House

Greetings friends and fans! This is The Daily Bone and I’m your friendly doggie commentator Chester L. W. Spaniel.

It’s been a long time since we heard from our Florida correspondent Miss Charlee. So I called her up and asked her what’s new in Boca Raton. She quickly put together an excellent report.

Hello everybody! I’m your humble doggie reporter Miss Charlee. Welcome to my weird science geek home! You are probably wondering about the new banana in the house. Don’t worry. I’m still the top banana!

One of my humans had something called a cold. I have no idea how anyone could possibly be cold here in South Florida. Please refer to this diagram below.

The symptoms include stuffy nose, cough, lethargy, and lots of moping and groaning. Ironically, the human afflicted with this malady gets warmer, not colder. Perhaps a better name for this human illness would be viral misery syndrome. We doggies can’t catch it from our humans, thank goodness.

A strange creature appeared when the symptoms began. It looked like an elephant, and spewed water vapor out of its trunk thing. But it seemed to have a soothing effect on the afflicted human.

I offered a few of my toys to my human and it appeared to help a little bit. However, the best remedy for a human cold is time. It gets better eventually.

In other news, a weird alien creature called a jack-a-lope that usually sits quietly on a shelf, has moved. I believe this creature is from Professor Braydee Spiker’s collection of paranormal squeaky toys. Someday, Mr. Jack-a-lope, I’m going to chew on your pelt and gnaw on your antlers.

My human has been keeping busy manipulating prickly plants called cacti.

She’s also doing weird experiments in propagation of plants called succulents. Step one is to take a fully grown plant and break it into little pieces.

Step two is to put each piece on top of its own pile of dirt. It must be some kind of zombie science magic, but somehow each of the little plant pieces then grows until it forms another whole plant.

Step three is to put the new plants into special space pods. I’d better keep a close eye on these things. Pretty soon they’ll be taking over the entire house!

Finally, this lizard was spotted in our yard today. We thought it was an iguana, but later discovered it’s actually a brown basilisk. As you might have heard, Florida, especially near the Everglades, is swarming with lizards and snakes that have been released or escaped from captivity.

Thanks for watching the Florida edition of The Daily Bone!  Now, without further ado, I shall deal with Mr. Banana Man.

That was very informative. Thank you Miss Charlee!

A Fine Day

Good evening everyone. I'm your affable doggie correspondent Chester L. W. Spaniel, and this is The Daily Bone.

It was a fine summer day today: sunny and cool with a nice breeze. Ghostwriter and Dad went outside and did lots of  yard work.

Remember my big pile of sticks?

Dad got the horrible noisy fearsome screaming dragon scary stick eater machine out of the garage and woke it up! Yipes! My amiable colleague Joseph (Joey dog) Stephens and I  stayed in the house until it ran out of gas. Now there are no more sticks! But that's OK.

Joey and I spent some time just enjoying the dappled shade of the silver maple tree.

Grazin' in the grass is a gas …

…baby can you dig it?

Since it's flower Friday, here are a few photos from our garden:

Oh, and this just in: our favorite miniature human, Ryan, went for a ride on his intergalactic tricycle! Wow! I wonder how far he got?

And that's it for our report. Good night.
