The Early Squirrels

Ghostwriter was mad at me today.

Last night she got out of work late. She didn't get to bed until 2AM!

So this morning, bright and early, the three squirrel stooges were ditzing around in my back yard.

What choice did I have but to bark at them?

Well, ghostwriter didn't appreciate getting woken up by my barking.

Dang squirrels!

Hey, I'm still waiting for that peanut butter sandwich!

Fat Squirrels?

Hello fellow doggies. This is a TDB Special Report. I'm your scientific doggie reporter
Chester L. W. Spaniel. I'm live and on location at my drive-through barking window.

Squirrels are getting fatter! Yes it's true! You may recall certain pictures I've posted recently on The Daily Bone of our local squadron of the Evil Squirrel Cartel.

Here's alias Twinkletoes who's shown up twice now demanding a peanut butter sandwich.

This fat forager below was seen poking around our yard along with his two porky pals yesterday!

A few days ago Fatty White-ears was gorging on fallen birdie seeds.

Even Little Dog Lost cartoonist Steve Boreman thinks the squirrel obesity problem in 2016 is getting out of hand.

Apparently the mild weather and lack of snow cover is enabling squirrels to forage more, and use their stored body fat less. Hmmmm. There's one right now.

I'd be more than happy help them out with their diet and exercise program!

Zoom!

Challenger

We just have a brief note today here at The Daily Bone. We just realized it's been 30 years since the space shuttle Challenger disaster. Although Joey dog and I were not around for that, our human family remembers this day vividly.

They had all gone to a toy store in downtown Rochester to buy a wooden train set for son John's birthday which was coming up. Ghostwriter had set up the VCR—well, it was 1986— to tape a show, and instead recorded the entire Challenger explosion.
30 years ago today.

Wednesday Evening News

Greetings loyal readers! This is The Daily Bone and I'm your quintessential doggie reporter
Chester L. W. Spaniel.

I have a very important announcement! The days are getting longer! Yes indeed, it's not pitch black outside at 5PM any more. And today, we actually saw a bit of blue sky and sunshine.

We even got to see a sunset, instead of more dreary, gray clouds at the end of the day.

It feels like Spring is right around the corner!

NEWS FLASH NEWS FLASH NEWS FLASH NEWS FLASH NEWS FLASH NEWS FLASH

This just in from our good friend Angus in North Carolina:

Thanks Chester. Hello everyone. You'll never believe what happened to my humans! Remember that big blizzard on the East Coast last weekend? Well, my humans were in the Bla-hamas when it hit, and they got stranded there for a few more days. Imagine having to put up with that blazing hot sun, and dry itchy sand, and salty water, with nothing to drink except those big fruity concoctions served in coconuts with paper umbrellas on them!

I'm sure these sea gulls weren't very exciting company!

Meanwhile, I was relaxing at a premium deluxe doggie spa and country club. Here I am socializing with my friends. I'm the one on the top right walking over to check out the ladies.

We had a wonderful party during that blizzard, and then we went out to play in the snow!

So my humans finally got home today, and they're all tired and sunburned. I, however, am quite rested and relaxed, and wondering when I'll get to see my doggie friends again.

Thank you for that interesting report Angus! We're glad you're all home safe and sound at this time!

And now it's time for our feature comic this week. I'm sure all you doggies out there will like it!

This one reminded me of our good friends Frankie and Ernie!

Bwahahahahahahahaha!

In local news, we had some more snow this morning. Here I am with my esteemed associate Joseph (Joey dog) Spaniel patrolling the borders and measuring the snow depth. It's barely an inch!

But by mid day, it was already melting!

Why does it keep disappearing?

We're going to take a look back at this day in 2015. Wow! We had lots of snow then!

Well, don't worry. We still have two more months of winter here in Western NY. That's plenty of time to get a proper blizzard with eight feet of snow, white-out conditions, gale force winds, icy roads, and a wind chill factor of minus 20º! Don't put those snow boots away yet ghostwriter!

Shirley You Know …

Hello everyone! This is The Daily Bone and we're your steadfast and reliable doggie reporters Chester L. W. Spaniel and Joseph (Joey dog) Spaniel.

As you can see, our snow is all gone again! It's like a spring day in March here: 40º and the wind is blowing full force.

But no matter. There's a great activity going on in Blogville right now. Some of us are playing the "Shirley* you know … game." We're recommending some of our favorite blogger friends to our other friends so that everyone can get to know each other better.

For example: our friends Stanley and Murphy at murphyandstanley mentioned us on their blog. Now we have new bloggers coming over to check out The Daily Bone. My dearest Princess Leah at princessleahthecav also put a link to The Daily Bone in her doggie blog and mentioned a couple bloggers we had never met, and whom we're going to visit later today.

One of our favorite German doggie blogs is Charly at hundebengelcharly Our ghostwriter knows some German and always tries to understand what Charly is saying before putting it into automatic translate. Another one of her German blogger friends is Aiko at kanjucha And surely you know Casper at casperswelt

And "Shirley" you know our favorite Danish friends Laika and Vaks at laikashundeliv We love the funny cartoons their Mom sometimes puts into their blog!

We have a few friends from Canada too. Momo and Pinot at momo-cavalie live right across Lake Ontario from us! Then there's our friend Sammy Sam at mydogsam01

Wow! We have a lot of friends! So the wind can howl and bluster outside today. We'll be safe and warm inside visiting all our new friends, and hope you check out the links we put above.

*Oh, and if you don't know the funny-face Shirley pictured above, she is Shirley Booth who stars in a show from the 1960's called Hazel!
