Joey's Photo Collection

This is The Daily Bone, and I'm your grieving doggie reporter Chester L. W. Spaniel.

As you probably know, my esteemed and very dear colleague, mentor, and best friend Joseph (Joey dog) Spaniel passed away early Saturday morning, peacefully, at home with ghostwriter and Dad holding him and petting him. In his memory, I'd like to present a collection of photos of our Joey dog. They are in no particular order.

Joey's movie star picture.

Hugs with Miss Ginger.

Ready for dinner! I'll have one of each, please.

Creative sleeping.

Actually, I'm quite comfy.

Zoomies in the crunchy leaves.

Nyah!

Me worry about snow? Nope!

Hike at Mendon Ponds Park.

Making funny faces.

Dashing through the snow!

A couple old photos of Joey with Charisma and Miss Ginger.

We have countless pictures of Joey dog food watching. He always got a sample of the food and rarely was there something he didn't like.

I'm going to have a hard time filling in for him. I just don't have his steady concentration.

I'm gonna miss you, buddy.

Ghostwriter and Dad and I would like to say thanks to everyone who sent their condolences to us in the last day, and POTP, Airezen, healing vibes, hopes, prayers, hugs and kisses and purrs, during the week before. A special thank you to Madi, downhomeinnc for putting Joey on the Blogville POTP site blogvillepotp, and Marty Manx and the gang for devoting an entire post to Joey dog. martythemanx  Blogville and the pet blogging community, you are the best!

Flower Friday With Bugs

Good day friends. This is The Daily Bone and I'm your doggie reporter Chester L. W. Spaniel.

It's another hot summer day. The cicadas are buzzing in the trees, and the white puffy clouds are floating by. It's been so dry around here that we don't have many flowers left. Ghostwriter cut down the dessicated daisies, pulled out some weeds and trimmed back the lamb's ears that were running rampant everywhere. So here's what we have left:

Something's been eating the cone flower petals.

We have a few black-eye susans.

Liatra.

White phlox.

Purple phlox.

Bee balm.

Hydrangea bush.

Our gigantic hydrangea bush is usually covered with flowers by this time of summer. But this year, there are only a few buds. We wonder what's up with that? The silver maple and the Norway maples had hardly any seeds this year either. Maybe it was due to the mild winter we had? And now, on to the bugs!

This funny looking insect was crawling around on the banister outside the front door. We think it's a carpenter bee mimic fly whose wings haven't filled out yet. It was quite big. Here it is crawling over the back of ghostwriter's hand. It was quite harmless, and we let it go after the photo session.

We thought this was a moth at first—it was hanging around the back porch light with the other moths—but it's actually a butterfly. I chased it away. The next morning we found it on the garage floor with one leg caught in an old cobweb. Ghostwriter picked it up and it flew away. But the minute it went out the back door, a little birdie swooped down and caught it. That's life, I guess.

Here's a cicada ghostwriter picked up from the grass last week. Why it was there instead of in the trees, we don't know. It's an other one of those gigantic insects that looks all fierce and deadly, but is quite harmless. Hopefully it made its way to the tree tops where it's making a lot of noise with all the other cicadas up there!

Now here's an update on my elderly colleague Joseph (Joey dog) Spaniel. He still won't eat. Ghostwriter tried everything, even our best yum yum doggie treats!

I see you have a doggie treat that you don't want. Can I have it?

No. It's mine. Maybe I'll eat it later.

Very well. Then I shall sing you the song of our people, like Miss Ginger used to.

Aroooo! Awoooo! Bark bark bark bark! Awooooo!

Bark bark bark bark arooooo!

Wooooooooooowooooooo!

Well, I see that my singing hasn't changed your mind.

Harumph! I thought he'd never shut up!

I Can Haz Cheezburger?

Hello. This is The Daily Bone and I'm your trusty doggie reporter Chester L. W. Spaniel.

My colleague Joseph (Joey dog) Spaniel sleeps almost all the time now. He's been peeing on the floor in the morning. We don't have any carpets in our house anyway, so it was an easy clean up.

But here's something I thought I'd never see: Joey dog won't eat! Ghostwriter tried offering him some of his home made doggie food, but he turned his nose up at it. Next, she made him a cheese burger with some ground meat, bread, and a slice of cheese. Now that's some yummy food!

But he didn't want that either!!! Even when ghostwriter sent me outside to chase that stinky little rotten seed-snarfing dastardly squeaky stripey chipmunk …

Aha! You can't hide because ghostwriter cut down the dead daisies!

… Joey wouldn't eat.

As loyal readers will know, Joey dog is Doggie Chief Inspector, comestibles division, and founder of the Yum Yum Coalition. This is a bad sign. Ghostwriter says maybe his medications are giving him a stomach ache, and she will keep trying.

Ghostwriter offered Joey his cheeseburger again later, and he refused again. Then Dad put some peanut butter on a slice of bread for him. Joey ate about three bites, then had enough. Ghostwriter took a piece of chicken and boiled it with some rice.

Plain chicken and rice: ah, nope, nope, um,  that's a negative.

With lots and lots of patience and encouragement, ghostwriter finally got him to eat a little of that chicken and rice. She says he probably has an upset stomach from the medicine.

This evening he was feeling a little better. He managed to get off the couch and find his way to the dinner table. He plopped himself down in his usual spot to do some food watching. Please try not to notice his left eye. It looks like that because his pupil is dilated from the eye drops and he has a cataract in his lens.

Ghostwriter and Dad gave him some steak and he ate it! They also poured the steak juice (unseasoned) from the serving platter into a little bowl for him to lap up. Then he went back to sleep.

I might as well take a nap too.

Please hope and pray that Joey dog will be all right because he still has to be carried outside to do his business and then carried back in and he gets all disoriented and stands in one place like he doesn't know what to do and we can feel his ribs and his hips and sometimes he pants for no reason and has a hard time pooping and has to take all that medicine and without him I'll be an only doggie …

And I hope he's not mad at me because ghostwriter gave me the cheese burger and I ate it all up.
